Getting started

How to create an online form

Five steps from a blank editor to a form people can fill in. The same steps work for a contact form, a registration form or a survey.

1. Open the editor and start typing

Go to the form editor and write your first question. You do not need an account or a card, and there is no trial period. PulseFormCreator asks for an email address when you publish, because that is where the responses go.

Starting from a template is faster than starting from a blank page. Every entry in the template library is a working form: open it, change the words, publish it. If you are not sure what to ask, describe the form in a sentence and use AI to write a first draft for you to edit.

2. Pick the right question for each answer

Each question is a block, and the block type decides how the answer is collected and checked. Short answer, long answer, choice, checkboxes, dropdown, email, phone, number, date, time, link, address, file upload, signature, rating, NPS, slider, matrix, ranking and picture choice are all on the Free plan.

Two choices save trouble later. Use a dropdown or choice question wherever the possible answers are known, because the results can then be counted. Use the typed blocks (email, phone, number, date) in place of short text, because they check the answer as it is typed.

The address block defaults to Australia and asks for a state and a postcode. More on every block in building a form, and the full list with the plan each needs on the features page.

3. Hide what does not apply

Long forms lose people. Conditional logic keeps the form short for each person: a question appears only when an earlier answer calls for it.

The registration form template is a clear example. Answer that the person attending is under 18, and the parent or guardian questions appear and become required. Answer no, and they are never shown. Logic, calculations and scoring covers the rest, including score bands and sending people to different endings.

4. Preview it, then publish

Preview the form as a respondent before anyone else sees it, on a phone as well as a laptop. Then press publish and confirm your email with the code we send.

Publishing gives you a link and a QR code. You can then set an opening and closing date, a cap on the number of responses, a password, and duplicate prevention so the same person cannot answer twice. An RSVP form template with a closing date is a typical case.

5. Share it, and read what comes back

Send the link, print the QR code, or paste an embed snippet into your own site. There are 8 embed styles, covered in embedding a form on your website. For a website contact form, the contact form walkthrough is shorter, and it starts from the contact form template.

Answers arrive in your dashboard with a summary and a chart per question, and download as CSV or Excel at any time. You can also have every response emailed to you or posted into Slack. See results and integrations.

Responses are unlimited on every plan, subject to the published fair use thresholds.
