What this form asks, and why

A request a quote form should ask what the customer wants priced, how big the job is, where it is and by when, and how they want the answer. A rough budget and a photo or two can save a site visit on a small job.

The last column shows how often real quote request forms ask for it.

Question Why it is there Real forms
What would you like a price for? Required Asked on 7 of 10 forms. A service page’s link can choose it. 7 of 10 forms
Tell us about the job Required 1 of 10 forms labels a job description; 6 of 10 forms offer only “Comments”. 1 of 10 forms
How big is it? The biggest price driver, yet cleaning forms often leave it out. 2 of 10 forms
One-off or ongoing? Regular work is priced differently from a one-off. 1 of 10 forms
Where is the job? Required Service area and travel, asked on 9 of 10 forms, mostly as a ZIP. 9 of 10 forms
Can we visit to look or measure first? A yes ends on a screen about booking a look first. Our own recommendation
When do you need it done by? Rush work costs more, and a date lets you decline early. 2 of 10 forms
Rough budget Ranges, with “Not sure”, are quicker to answer than a figure. Only 1 of 10 forms asks. 1 of 10 forms
Photos, drawings or a brief One photo can stand in for a site visit on a small job. Our own recommendation
Your name Required Who the quote is addressed to. 9 of 10 forms

Texts Only when “Phone” is answered Shown once a number is given, unchecked and about this quote only. 5 of 10 forms ask consent to texts or automated calls. 5 of 10 forms

What we left out

  • Date of birth, gender and marital status. Insurance rating questions. A price for a job or a service never needs them.
  • A required texting consent. Some forms make it a condition of the quote. Asking for a price is not agreeing to marketing texts.
  • “How did you hear about us?”. A utm_source value in the link answers it without asking.

How the form changes as people answer

Most people see a shorter form. These questions and screens only appear when an answer calls for them.

  1. When “Phone” is answered

    shows “Texts”

  2. When “Can we visit to look or measure first?” is Yes

    shows the “Thanks, Tom” ending

  3. At the end

shows one of 2 thank-you screens, each headed “Thanks, Tom” with its own message

Make it yours

  1. Preselect the service

Link the “Get a quote” button on each service page with ?service=Cleaning and that service is already chosen.

  2. See which ads bring jobs

Add ?utm_source=google to ad links and the source is saved with every request.

  3. Hear about each request at once

Turn on Email me in the Workflows tab, or post requests to Slack, so nobody waits for a price.

Good practice and the law

  • US

Autodialed or prerecorded marketing calls and texts to mobiles need prior express written consent, so never make it a condition of a quote. 47 CFR 64.1200

  • UK

Marketing emails and texts need specific consent. The soft opt-in for someone negotiating to buy applies only if they could opt out when their details were taken. ICO, electronic mail marketing

Questions about this template

What does “request a quote” mean?

Asking a business for a price before agreeing to anything. The form collects what the price depends on, so the reply can be a number.

Is there a version for cleaners, movers or landscapers?

Yes, above the preview. Cleaning asks rooms, bathrooms, how often and pets; Moving asks both addresses, the date and stairs or an elevator at each end; Landscaping asks the work, the yard size and gate access.

How long should a quote take?

Put your real turnaround on the thank-you screen, which says two business days until you change it. Custom work can take five to seven.

Does it suit printing or custom products?

Pick “Product or custom order” above the preview: quantity, size, material and finish instead of area and frequency. Printed shirts at a set price fit a t-shirt order form.

Which form do you need?

Not quite the job? One of these may fit, or browse all request forms.
